The Super Seventies
The music of the Super 70s were all the rage at this year’s St. Lucia Sickle Cell Association fundraiser, held at Sandals Halcyon. This annual event continues to be a mega hit – a tribute to the performers who year after year find ways to spice up their act. There were several familiar names missing from this year’s show, but as one performer said “you have to change with the times.”
Newcomers Joyce Medrick, Cathy Walker, Les Enfant Dance Troupe, sandals Halcyon Playmakers, Lennie Stone and special guest star the Mighty Pep had plenty of fire power to keep the crowd entertained.
The show started with the cast, supported by the Sugar Cane Band, doing their own version of “Kung Fu Fighting”. Hostess for the evening and SSCA president, Paula Calderon, did her Madonna impersonation of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina .” The Mighty Pep was a big hit singing Elton John’s “Daniel” and “Child Reunion” by Simon and Garfunkel.

Molly McDaniel kept the applause going with “Fernando” while Harry Samson really spiced things up with an old Neil Diamond classic “Sweet Caroline.” Claudia JnBaptiste, Joyce Medrick and Lennie Stone sang “Poinsetta Blossoms” and “When Christmas Comes Along” and brought the show to a close.
Mrs. Calderon thanks Sponsors who continue to show their support and presented appreciation awards to several individuals. The show raised more than $10,000.00
