It's Good to Know You Care!
WORLD SICKLE CELL AWARENESS DAY - 19th JUNE 2017
WELCOMEWelcome to the St. Lucia Sickle Cell Association Website. The St. Lucia Sickle Cell Association (SSCA) is proud to have introduced its website after many years of existence, thanks to my daughter Natasha Calderon who is responsible for putting together all the information with the support of our office and our Medical Personnel.
The Association was responsible for the introduction of the word “Sickle Cell Disease” in St. Lucia and began with the education of the public, medical personnel and lab technicians. The introduction of Cord Blood Screening in 1992 (the only English Speaking island in the Caribbean providing this service), and the Community Outreach Program developed in 1995 has proven itself to be a ‘best-practice’ in chronic disease care for children in St. Lucia and in the Caribbean. The Association’s patient support services started in 1989, with the addition of a full-time dedicated nurse provided by the Ministry of Health in 1995. The Association provides a free clinic to members, free medication when available, and has hosted several Symposiums on the Disease. I wish to take this opportunity to thank our Patron, Mr. Michael Gordon, all our volunteers, medical professionals and financial supporters over the years We thank you for visiting our website, and hope that you can donate to our cause through the links provided. Some of the site is still under construction. Paula A. Calderon SLPM, President 1987-2016 REMEMBER TO DONATEFor more information on HOW to DONATE click here
