FREEWINDS CONCERTSJanuary 17th 1998 - from the WEEKENND VOICE
While in Port the Freewinds held ä free Show for all St. Lucians with multiplatinum award winning composer/lyricist and recording artist David Pomeranz. The show was excellent and the performance outstanding. Some 100 St. Lucians attended, enjoying the music and ambiance of the cruise ship. The Freewinds is one of the few cruiseships that offer to raise funds for the charities in St. Lucia including the Sickle Cell Association and the Save the Children Fund. The President too the oppurtunity to express their gratitude to the Port Captain of the Ship Ludwig Alpers by presenting as Appreciation Plaque. The St. Lucians attending dontaed some EC$450 to the SSCA. February 6th 1999 - from ONE CARIBBEAN Newspaper On Sunday Evening Last week the Freewinds Cruise liner was transformed into a local concert hall where a Country and Western Concert was held by the Sickle Cell Association. It was the 3rd successive year that such a show has been organized and it was truly a night of fun. Part of the highlghts of the evening were renditions by Frankie DuBoulay, Liz Glace, the duet team of Jean Eugene and Lufus Medereick just to name a few. Paula and Lawson Calderon ntertained the crowd with their version of Dolly Parton's "Learn that by me one more time". The ladies who were behind the scenes planning and preparing for the night's event were known as Miss Kitty and the Saloon Girls. Their stnning outfits and lively demeanour added da whole lot to the event. It is not suprising that Jane DuBoulay could be such fun! One almost got lost inthe events for the n ight. The proceeds of the concert will be shared amoung a number of associations. We in St. Lucia must pay special tribute to those who are willing to help people without personal gain. Perhaps this will encourage others to get involved in future ventures. |
